What’s a Dental Injury or Emergency?

You May Not Know Until it Happens to You

  • Broken, cracked or chipped tooth: Stop bleeding by applying gauze and pressure.
  • Knocked out tooth: Place your tooth back in its socket, or store it in milk or your own saliva.
  • Loose tooth: Avoid touching or playing with it, or use a sterile gauze to hold it in place.
  • Get out of pain: Ice on the outside of the mouth will help numb the pain.
  • Over-the-counter medication: Ibuprofen and Acetaminophen can help reduce the swelling.
  • No matter what type of dental emergency, you should see a dentist within 12 hours of the injury!
