Expert Teeth Whitening Treatment In Just A Single Session

Teeth whitening is safe, affordable, and non-invasive, which is why it’s the most popular cosmetic dentistry procedure in America. At Progressive Dental, you can get expert teeth whitening treatment in just a single session, and get a smile that’s whiter, brighter, and beautiful.

How Teeth Whitening Works

There are thousands of teeth whitening products on the market today, but they all share the same basic principles for removing stains from the teeth, and restoring white enamel.

Teeth whitening products use special compounds called peroxides. Peroxides contain very volatile oxygen molecules, which react to certain types of organic compounds, such as tooth stains. When a peroxide contacts a tooth stain, it breaks the molecular bond that holds the stain in place. In turn, this means that the stain is removed and “bleached” away, leading to a brighter smile.

Because peroxides can only reach the exterior of your teeth, they are only able treat exterior tooth stains. Exterior tooth stains may be caused by consumption of coffee, tea, and wine, as well as the use of oral tobacco products. Aging can also yellow the teeth, and consumption of some types of berries can stain your teeth as well.

Internal stains, such as those caused by a metal-amalgam filling, or a reaction to an antibiotic like tetracycline or doxycycline, cannot be treated by peroxide-based whiteners.

The Difference Between At-Home Vs. In-Office Teeth Whitening

Both in-office and at-home teeth whitening are equally effective. At our office, we use custom-molded whitening trays and Patterson brand whitening gel for superior results.

The primary difference between in-office and at-home whitening is the time it takes for treatment. At an in-office appointment, we’ll typically use a UV light to “cure” the whitening gel on your teeth. This helps excite the peroxide, delivering faster results in just a single session.

At-home whitening doesn’t use UV light, and this means that it takes a bit longer to whiten your teeth. In the end, the results of both treatments are quite similar, and we leave it to our patients to decide what makes them most comfortable.

The Benefits Of Teeth Whitening

Wondering if you should get your teeth professionally whitened at Progressive Dental? Here are a few benefits that you’ll enjoy if you choose our whitening treatments!

  • Improved confidence and self-esteem – Stained and yellowed teeth can really harm your self-esteem. If you find yourself embarrassed to smile because of the shade of your teeth, whitening may be the right choice for you.
  • Rejuvenated, youthful appearance – Yellowed or stained teeth can age you prematurely. By whitening your teeth, you’ll be able to restore a more youthful appearance.
  • Affordable and non-invasive – Teeth whitening is very affordable, and completely non-invasive. No drilling or needles are required! This makes it a great choice if you need a fast, inexpensive way to restore your smile.
