We focus on delivering personalized care to children of all ages. When Should I Take My Child to the Dentist?

Ideally, your child should see the dentist regularly as soon as their first tooth erupts. This usually happens around six months of age. Regular checkups and bringing your child to the dentist early has many benefits. First, your child will become familiar with the dentist and will be much less likely to develop dental anxiety in the future. Second, your dentist will be able to keep an eye on your child’s oral health as they grow and spot potential issues before they become more severe. Finally, your child will get the preventive care they need to avoid cavities and tooth infections in their young teeth.

Common Pediatric Dentistry Treatments and Procedures

Not sure what to expect from a pediatric dental visit? Here are some dental procedures that are common for kids of all ages.

  • Fluoride Treatments – Fluoride treatments are an ideal way to remineralize tooth enamel and fight decay. They are often recommended if your child has experienced moderate tooth decay and is at risk of developing a cavity. A regular fluoride treatment delivered alongside a teeth cleaning and oral exam can help strengthen the teeth.
  • Dental Sealants – Dental sealants are made of an advanced plastic compound, which is applied to the molars and other teeth that commonly develop cavities. They create a barrier between the tooth’s enamel and bacteria that lives in the mouth, ultimately preventing cavities from forming.
  • Fillings – Fillings may be required if a cavity is identified either in a baby tooth or in a permanent tooth. With our pediatric expertise, we make the process of getting a filling safe, comfortable and easy for your child.
  • Stainless Steel Crowns – Stainless steel crowns are ideal for children, especially if a baby tooth has become infected and requires the application of a crown. Without a crown and a root canal, an infected tooth may fall out, and it may not be replaced by a permanent tooth until the age of 12. Stainless steel crowns are inexpensive compared to porcelain, so they are ideal for protecting the baby tooth until it eventually falls out.

We Specialize in Tongue and Lip Ties – Get the Treatment Your Child Needs

Tongue and lip ties are common among infants, but can be hard to recognize. Also known as “ankyloglossia,” this condition is caused by thick bands of tissue which restrict the movement of the tongue, mouth, or lips of infants.

In turn, this can cause issues with the range of motion of the mouth, and prevent proper breastfeeding. It can also cause speech difficulties, poor oral hygiene and other problems. Our skilled, gentle dentists specialize in the treatment of tongue and lip ties, and we can treat your child with a frenotomy or a frenuloplasty to remove the tissue and restore a healthy, fully functional mouth.
